I get SMTP Error! Could not connect to SMTP host. - but newsletter is sent anyway

i have been using jnews to send out newsletters every week for months, but i am a little concerned by this SMTP error.

why am i getting it - when apparently it doesn't affect the sending of the newsletter at all? my joomla site is correctly configured in the Global Config (joomla 1.5.23) with username and password that work, so what is this about?

Penelope, Did you try to send using Joomla massmail if you get the same issue on smtp? What did you do before this issue happens? if it was working before then somehting change in the configuration or in your server that causing the issue. It is pretty standard, if it was working then it would be working until someone change it. It is like hitting your car on the wall when nobody maneuvers it.
